Youth Leaders Provide Advice on Sustainability

WINNERS OF ESSAY CONTEST GET SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS AT THE DISCOVER BRILLIANT CONFERENCE  The Generation BE Foundation, in partnership with Athena Media Group, is now accepting essays for the 2007 BE Brilliant Essay Contest. The BE Brilliant Essay contest is asking students in middle school, high school, two year and four year post secondary schools to write a persuasive letter to business and government leaders that focuses what should drive the decisions they make in order to create a legacy of prosperity and sustainability for future generations. Winners will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the college program of their choice.  The essay contest winners will be featured at the Gala Awards Ceremony during Discover Brilliant International Conference & Expo (www.discoverbrilliant.com) to be held September 17-19, 2007 at the Sheraton Seattle and the Washington State Convention & Trade Center. Winners will serve as awards presenters at the Gala Awards Ceremony the evening of September 18. The Brilliant Awards will honor firms who best demonstrate the true marriage of economics, environment and security in buildings, business, utilities, communities and transportation.   Discover Brilliant 2007 is an international conference and exposition celebrating Brilliant innovations and approaches to buildings, business, utilities, communities and transportation that generate more value, while reducing waste and negative environmental impacts. In a world driven by economics, it is not enough to just be green.Discover Brilliant focuses on the convergence between economics, environment and security.  further promote the importance of finding solutions that are more environmentally sound, economically valuable, stable and secure. Generation BE (www.generationbe.org) is a non-profit organization founded by the CEO of Athena and is focused on inspiring youth and ensuring that today's leaders lay out the foundation for th next generation's sustainable future. The foundation works in tandem with Athena Media Group and Discover Brilliant to encourage sustainable achievement in today's youth, encouraging them into career tracks where they can bring value into key sectors.    The purpose of the essay contest is for this upcoming generation, Generation BE, to let decision-makers know what should be accomplished now to ensure this generation has a sustainable future. Winning essays will have excerpts read at the Gala Awards Ceremony and be posted on the Discover Brilliant 2007 website.  They will present the awards to the leaders chosen for the Brilliant Community, Brilliant Business, Brilliant Building, Brilliant Utility and Brilliant Transportation, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award given to a Brilliant Leader.  The contest is open to youth in three levels throughout the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada: Level I for grades 6 through 8; Level II for grades 9 through 12, and Level III for students enrolled in post-secondary schools (community colleges, junior colleges, technical schools or universities).                 Essays must be between 600-1000 words. Essays and application forms are due July 15, 2007.
